Engineering Manager

Through detailed planning, Engineering Managers fulfill the lead role in coordinating activities performed by program managers and engineers for successful automotive program launches. Planning will include the review of customer timing and program-specific requirements for feasibility and cost estimates.

 

Engineering Managers will represent our Engineering by communicating with customers and suppliers, traveling periodically for onsite visits. A high level of skills are necessary to provide assistance to all tiers of manufacturing to resolve complex assembly and fabrication issues related to design. Engineering Managers will also participate and support projects aimed at reducing product costs.

 

For current and future business, Engineering Managers will research and work on the development of new products and commodities. This includes analysis of market demand, and advanced research and development skills.

 

Engineering Managers report to and confer with our top level management. Strong communication and technical skills are needed to successfully perform this assignment. Advanced knowledge of automotive manufacturing and engineering is also essential.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review customer SOW and contracts for feasibility and cost analysis. 
  • Assure product can be manufactured within budgetary expectations.
  • Work with the design team to assure product designs meet or exceed all customer requirements.
  • Plan and lead program managers and engineers working on automotive program launches.
  • Conduct team review meetings to assign tasks, and to assure all program targets are being met.
  • Track all program costs to assure program budgeting targets are being met.
  • Attend meetings hosted by the Director of Engineering to review company goals & objectives.
  • Regularly confer with top management to communicate the ongoing status of team activities.
  • Utilize problem-solving tools to resolve design, equipment, or product issues that may arise.
  • Research potential new products and commodities, and analyze market needs and demands.
  • Attend seminars, trade shows & customer/supplier meetings to research new automotive trends.
  • Periodically travel to customer and supplier locations for in-person meetings & product reviews.
  • Understand the basic ISO/TS-16949 and our Business Manual Procedures which are associated to this job (reference the procedures listed below).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has supervisory responsibilities, leading approximately 1-5 employees.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree (MS) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Can read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.  Can respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Can write speeches & articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Can make effective & persuasive speeches & presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Highest Skills:  Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Highest Skills:  Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

Periodical work near moving mechanical parts.

 

NOISE CONDITION - TYPICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Moderate noise (i.e. business office w/computers & printers; light traffic).
