POSITION:                            NTS Maintenance Operator

DEPARTMENT:                    Water Reclamation

 

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform maintenance duties at Natural Treatment System facilities, such as cutting and clearing grass and other nuisance vegetation, conducting prescribed burns, controlling nuisance animal populations, and related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Mows and clears vegetation along roadsides, dams, ponds, lakes, and constructed wetland berms: maintains safe and efficient access and operation of the area.

Removes nuisance wildlife and vegetation as required to maintain the integrity of constructed wetland structures and processes to ensure efficient water reclamation through the Natural Treatment System.

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains tractor, excavator, skid steer, dump truck, pickup truck, lowboy, and other tools and equipment; and performs routine and preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.

Receives and completes assigned work orders: manages herbicide and pesticide storage, mixing, and applications; maintains property line markings by posting and or clearing; constructs and modifies dams, ditches, ponds, wetlands and other structures to prevents soil erosion and enhance stability; delivers equipment to work locations as requested; and maintains related records and documentation.

Performs prescribed burning of designated areas as requested.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.

Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Functions:

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school Diploma or GED required; supplemented by two years of experience in equipment operation, grounds maintenance, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. This is considered a Safety Sensitive position.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). Preferred certifications or licensures: level 1A Erosion & Sediment Control; Prescribed Burn; and Nuisance Control.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to determine, calculate, tabulate, or summarize data/information, following a prescribed plan requiring the exercise of some judgment. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver, and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and/or rapid adjustments.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.  Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

ADA Compliance:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of significant weight (50-100 pounds of lifting and push/pull force).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, and visual cues or signals.  Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, water hazards, or rude/irate customers.

PAYGRADE:               15H (starts at $21.61/hour-$32.42/hour)
