JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to repair water meters and backflow prevention devices.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Repairs water meters; disassembles meters; identifies, repairs, or replaces defective parts; cleans, reassembles, and retests meter; and documents repairs, estimating revenue gain/loss for meter repairs.
• Installs and troubleshoots radio read meter components; connects meter transmitter units and touchpads; and installs or replaces radio reader components as needed.
• Assists with training of assigned employees; provides information; and answers questions regarding meter repair and testing procedures.
• Tests and repairs backflow prevention devices; connects test kits to backflow devices; and identifies and makes repairs needed repairs.
• Utilizes meter master hardware and software to evaluate correct meter size and type for particular application.
• Installs, programs, and downloads monitors to detect unauthorized use of water in fire connections.
• Processes a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
• Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains truck, meter testing tools, ventilation fan, backflow test kit, impact gun, and other tools and equipment.
• Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

• High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of related work experience in meter reading, meter maintenance, and meter repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.


Required Licenses/Certifications:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Must possess and maintain a Backflow Prevention Certification required within 12 months.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as heavy work involving lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, then he or she can also do sedentary, moderate and light work.
• Tasks typically involve some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing; tasks also may involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, noise extremes, confined machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
• This position works on call as assigned.
